Services and coverage
What areas does Tailored Fresh service?
We run daily out of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Griffith and Shepparton, with linehaul as far as Perth, Townsville, Mataranka and Launceston. The network map shows every destination and the corridors between them.
Which distribution centres do you deliver into?
All major supermarket distribution centres in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Costco, plus every capital city fresh produce market, daily.
Do you deliver into the produce markets?
Yes. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide markets every day, arriving in time for the morning trading floor. We deliver straight onto your agent's stand.
Do you handle air freight?
Yes. We are a known consignor for fresh produce into Melbourne Tullamarine and Sydney airports, daily, for both export and domestic uplift.
Who is the best refrigerated transport company in Melbourne for fresh produce?
That is for growers and buyers to judge, but here is what Tailored Fresh is built for. We only carry temperature controlled freight, mostly fresh fruit and vegetables. We run our own cold storage at Ravenhall, we collect from farm gates in the Goulburn Valley and the Riverina, and we deliver into every major supermarket distribution centre and capital city produce market in Australia overnight. If your freight is produce and the temperature has to hold, that is the whole business.
What is cold chain logistics?
Cold chain logistics is keeping a perishable product inside its required temperature range from the moment it is harvested until it reaches the consumer. Break it anywhere, even for an hour on a hot dock, and shelf life is lost for good. Our part of the chain is precooling the trailer before loading, holding the set point through the run, and handing over at the same temperature the load left at, with the record to prove it.
How much does refrigerated transport cost in Australia?
It depends on the lane, the pallet count, the temperature and how often you run. A weekly standing run on a busy corridor prices very differently to a one off across the Nullarbor. Send us the pick up, the drop, the temperature, the frequency and a rough pallet count and we will come back with a rate rather than a guess.
What temperature should fresh produce be transported at?
It varies by product. Most leafy vegetables and berries sit near 0 to 2 degrees, apples and pears around 0 to 4, bananas and some tropicals need to stay warmer at 13 to 14, and frozen runs at minus 18. We set to your product rather than to a standard setting, and the set point is logged against the consignment.
Do you carry frozen freight as well as chilled?
Yes. The fleet runs chilled and frozen, and the set point is chosen per load.
How long does it take to get produce from Melbourne to Sydney?
Overnight. Loaded at Ravenhall in the evening and on the dock in Sydney the next morning, in time for the trading floor.
Do you provide temperature records for each load?
Yes. The temperature record travels with the freight and is available on request for any consignment.
What is a known consignor and why does it matter?
Known consignor is an Australian aviation security status that lets a business prepare and secure air cargo at its own premises rather than having it screened at the airport. In practice it means produce can go straight to the aircraft with less handling and less delay, which matters when the product has days of life, not weeks. Tailored Fresh holds known consignor status at Melbourne and Sydney.
Can you handle cross docking and consolidation?
Yes. That is what Ravenhall is for. Part loads from several growers are consolidated onto one trailer so a few pallets travel on the same overnight run as a full load, at the same temperature.
Do you work with small growers or only large packhouses?
Both. Plenty of growers start with one pallet in a busy week and end up on a standing weekly run. Part loads are welcome.
What produce do you carry?
Apples, pears, stone fruit, citrus, grapes, melons, bananas, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, spring onions, asparagus, broccolini, leaf and line packed vegetables, glasshouse herbs, and temperature sensitive confectionery through peak periods.
Where is your cold storage located?
47 Momentum Way, Ravenhall, in Melbourne's west, on the same site as transport operations, plus a 1,100 square metre cold room at Warehouse 1, Pad 9, Melbourne Market, Epping, with unloading and reloading on site.
Can you collect from the farm gate?
Yes. We collect from growers, packing sheds and regional cold stores across the Goulburn Valley and the Riverina on a scheduled run.
Do you go to Western Australia and Tasmania?
Yes. We run linehaul across the Nullarbor to Perth, and across Bass Strait to Launceston.
Do you carry seasonal freight out of the Northern Territory?
Yes. We run to Mataranka for the melon and mango season and plan capacity around the harvest window.
Do you service regional New South Wales?
Yes. The Riverina depot is at Hanwood, just outside Griffith, and Hillston, Wodonga and Wyong are regular points on the run.
Temperature and handling
What temperatures can you carry?
Chilled and frozen, set to your product. The set point is recorded against each consignment and monitored in transit.
Are trailers precooled before loading?
Yes. Trailers are brought down to temperature before a pallet goes near them, which is the single biggest thing that protects shelf life on a long run.
How is temperature monitored on the road?
Continuously, in transit, and logged against the consignment so the record travels with the freight.
What happens if there is a temperature excursion?
Our operations team is notified and will contact you before the load arrives, not after. Call the office to discuss how this works for your product.
Can you carry mixed temperature loads?
Talk to the office about your product mix and we will tell you what can travel together and what needs its own trailer.
Can I get the temperature record for a delivered load?
Yes. The set point and the in transit record are held against the consignment. Ask the office and we will send it through.
Do you carry frozen as well as chilled?
Yes. The fleet runs both, set to the product rather than to a standard setting.
Storage and consolidation
Do you offer cold storage as well as transport?
Yes. Short term cold storage, consolidation and cross docking at 47 Momentum Way, Ravenhall, on the same site as transport operations.
Can you consolidate part loads?
Yes. A few pallets travel on the same overnight run as a full trailer. This is how most smaller growers use us.
Can you hold stock and release it against orders?
Short term holding and release is part of what the Ravenhall site does. Call the office with your volumes and turnaround.
Is there a second handling charge between storage and transport?
No. Storage and transport share one site, so product moves from store to trailer without a second handling step.
Working with us
How do I get a quote?
Send us the pick up, the drop, the temperature, the frequency and roughly how many pallets. Use the form on the contact page or call the office. If it is urgent, ring, because we would rather talk it through.
What information do you need to book a load?
Pick up address and ready time, delivery address and required delivery window, product, pallet count, and the temperature it has to travel at.
How far in advance do I need to book?
For regular weekly runs, as soon as you know. For a one off, call the office and we will tell you what capacity is on tonight's run.
Do you take one off loads or only contracts?
Both. Plenty of growers start with a one off in a busy week and end up on a standing weekly run.
Who do I call if a load is running late?
The Ravenhall office on (03) 9217 8302. There is one number and it is answered by someone who knows where the truck is.
Are you accredited?
Yes. Full accreditation details are available on request. Chain of Responsibility obligations apply across the whole operation and we hold known consignor status for air freight at Melbourne and Sydney.
Do you carry freight for other carriers?
Talk to the office. We work with agents and other carriers where the lane and the timing suit both sides.
Are you hiring drivers?
We are usually looking for good HC and MC drivers. See the careers page or call the yard.

Still got a question?
Call the office and talk to someone who runs the freight, not a call centre.
